COLUMBIA — There were no words spoken. There didn’t have to be. Dawn Staley knew what would happen, and Tiffany Mitchell knew what to do.
Again and and again in the final two minutes, they ran versions of the same play — a ball screen for Mitchell, which is a cornerstone of the South Carolina offense. And again and again USC’s All-American delivered, scoring seven consecutive points in last season’s Greensboro Regional final to send the Gamecocks to their first Final Four. From the bench, there was no yelling, no urging, no prodding.
There was only a look.
