It took a little more effort than it has in seasons past, but the tenth-ranked South Carolina Gamecocks women’s basketball team did what it does and grabbed another win over rival Clemson, dispatching the Tigers 69-57 on Thursday night.
The contest was a sloppy affair for South Carolina, featuring a combined 27 turnovers and a sluggish 36% shooting performance, as the Gamecocks adjust to new faces and a new, up-tempo style of play. Although South Carolina looked to blow the game open in the second quarter and entered halftime with a 41-25 lead, Clemson’s zone defense had the Gamecocks out of sorts in an offensively bare third quarter that saw South Carolina put up just eight points.
