After rumors swirled all morning on social media about freshman quarterback Ryan Hilinski and a knee injury, South Carolina finally released a statement on Tuesday afternoon to set the record straight.
Hilinski, who was clearly limping at points during the Clemson game, has suffered a meniscus tear and will be undergoing surgery to repair it, according to the statement. However, contrary to what some Twitter reports had asserted earlier, he did not tear his ACL. Whew.
This is, obviously, good news for both Hilinski and the Gamecocks. Hilinski’s father, Mark, also chimed in, saying the family was comfortable with the medical decisions made by South Carolina’s staff (which I assume is mostly in reference to the fact Hilinski was allowed to keep playing through obvious discomfort against Clemson).
