Coach Will Muschamp and the South Carolina Gamecocks got a nice surprise on Thursday afternoon when Georgia Military College cornerback D.J. Daniel committed to the program.
The 6-foot, 180-pound Daniel is a four-star prospect and ranked the No. 12 junior college player in the country, third at his position, according to 247Sports.
While the Gamecocks were the first to offer him, he also held offers from Alabama, Auburn, Georgia, and Kentucky, the latter two of which were in his final three. According to recruiting analysts, the in-state Bulldogs were thought to be a virtual lock for Daniel’s commitment, so this can be considered upset.
