Early in Tuesday night’s game at Riley Park, the videoboard in right-center lit up with highlights of The Citadel’s football victory over South Carolina last season at Williams-Brice Stadium.
Citadel fans cheered; Gamecock faithful groaned.
But there was no baseball equivalent of that epic upset on Tuesday. The Gamecocks rode the pitching of freshman Adam Hill to a 6-3 victory over the Bulldogs before 6,298 fans on a cool, breezy evening at Riley Park.
USC improved to 9-0 on the young season as Hill, a lanky right-hander from Anderson, shut out the 5-2 Bulldogs through his five innings.
