The South Carolina football program has played in three different conferences (the SEC, the ACC, and the Southern Conference) and also spent over two decades as an independent, so it feels like the Gamecocks have played almost every team in the country, especially in the eastern half of America.
Never a team afraid to have a tough schedule, Carolina has played against virtually every big program in the southeast, but the team has been willing to travel to play teams further away from Columbia, South Carolina, as well. Just in the ’70s and ’80s, the Gamecocks played against far-off programs like Southern Cal, Pittsburgh, Oklahoma State, Nebraska, Kansas State, and Hawaii.
