The South Carolina football program has had only one Heisman Trophy winner in its history, that being running back George Rogers, who beat out Hugh Green and Hershcel Walker to take home the hardware in 1980.
That year, Rogers led the NCAA with 1,781 rushing yards and 1,804 yards from scrimmage, capping off a stellar senior season. He would go on to be the top selection in the ’81 draft, where he’d lead the NFL in rushing as a rookie for the New Orleans Saints.
Since Rogers’ Heisman winning season, there have been a number of greats to come through the Gamecock program.
