COLUMBIA, S.C. – South Carolina finished off its home schedule Saturday with a 44-31 win over Western Carolina that was tougher than it should have been.
There was never a legit threat the Catamounts were going to win the game, but the Gamecocks never could completely pull away. That a FCS team that finished 2-9 became the first opponent all year to break the 30-point barrier on the Gamecocks says it all about what kind of day it was.
Will Muschamp was justifiably unhappy with his team’s defensive performance, particularly early in the game.
“We’ve got to be mentally dialed in all the time, and be really right with what we’re doing defensively,” he said.
