South Carolina women’s tennis had to push thing all the way to the end.
But by the end, they could call themselves something new: SEC Tournament champions for the first time ever.
The Gamecocks pulled out the title 4-3, taking a three-set match when Ingrid Martins out-dueled Katarina Jokic at the No. 1 singles spot. It’s the first loss of the season for the Bulldogs, who came in No. 1 in the country.
The closest USC had ever been before this was a runner-up finish in 2002.
The Gamecocks got singles wins from Paige Cline, Mia Horvit and Rachel Rohrbacher.
