COLUMBIA — The closest thing South Carolina has seen to a real game since the conclusion of spring practice, Saturday’s scrimmage at Williams-Brice Stadium could be “judgment day” for some players — including the candidates for the Gamecocks’ starting quarterback job.
USC will hold a closed scrimmage at 9:15 a.m. Saturday that will include several real game conditions such as kickoffs, a halftime, and some assistants working from the press box as first-year head coach Will Muschamp readies the Gamecocks for their Sept. 1 opener at Vanderbilt.
“It’s huge. I (asked) our guys ... what kind of football player are you, what kind of toughness do you have, what kind of effort do you display when the coaches are off the field?
