What we learned about Clemson, South Carolina and the rest of college football one long, almost completed weekend into the season:
- The Gamecocks and Tigers beat coaches likely to get fired in November if not sooner.
- But winning uglier than another Dr. Pepper commercial featuring that goofball stadium vendor sure beats 0-1.
- Tough opening game scheduling works. Alabama is one perennial example, Clemson another. The Tigers’ 19-13 victory at Auburn on Saturday night was its fourth opener against an SEC team on the road or at a neutral site in the last five seasons.
