COLUMBIA — Chris Smith, a cornerback from South Pointe High School in Rock Hill, has become head coach Will Muschamp’s fourth early signee at South Carolina.
USC announced Wednesday that the 5-10, 168-pound Smith had signed his financial aid agreement and would enroll for the spring semester, which begins Monday. Considered a two-star prospect by recruiting services, Smith will compete at cornerback but could play on either side of the ball.
Smith joins quarterback Brandon McIlwain of Newtown, Pa.; running back C.J. Freeman of Greensboro, N.C.; and receiver Bryan Edwards of Conway as high school players who have graduated early and will take part in spring practice with the Gamecocks.
