The newest face in South Carolina baseball’s weekend pitching rotation, junior college transfer Ridge Chapman, got his first taste of work in Founders Park.
No, he didn’t hit 150 miles an hour as the in-stadium radar gun erroneously clocked at one point, but he was pretty good just the same.
Chapman, a junior college transfer, struck out six in his Gamecocks debut, and USC rolled to a 9-0 win in a rubber match against Virginia Military Institute. South Carolina (2-1) came back after dropping the opening game of the Mark Kingston era.
The Gamecocks went up early, aided by some wild pitching by Keydets starter Brady Watts.
