South Carolina’s football team had to shift its secondary during camp to account for potentially missing returning starting safety Steven Montac.
Will Muschamp announced Tuesday he’ll likely see the field, but not in a starting capacity.
“He’ll practice (Wednesday),” Muschamp said. “He ran around, looked good today. So I think Steven’s going to be back up for the game, which is good, as thin as we are in the secondary.”
USC lost freshman Jaylin Dickerson to shoulder surgery during camp. With him out and Montac doubtful, Chris Lammons moved to safety. Junior college defensive back Keisean Nixon and former walk-on Javon Charleston were listed as the second-string safeties on the team’s first depth chart.
