For all of Steve Spurrier’s success with the passing game through the past three decades, his track record of producing elite NFL wide receiver prospects was unspectacular. Only three Spurrier wide receivers ever were selected in the first round (Florida’s Ike Hilliard and Reidel Anthony in 1997 and Travis Taylor in 2000).
Despite sending more wide receivers (13) to the NFL craft in his Gator days, it’s been interesting that Spurrier’s biggest pro successes have come from his five South Carolina selections. Alshon Jeffery’s career 73.1 receiving yards per game average is the best of any Spurrier receiver to make the pros.
