COLUMBIA — This week, Rivers Bedenbaugh is doing his best impersonation of Tyler Renew.
The South Carolina fullback is one of several scout team members tasked with replicating The Citadel’s triple-option in practices leading up to Saturday’s noon game against the Bulldogs. Bedenbaugh, a 245-pound transfer from Georgia Southern, is playing the part of Renew, a B-back who has carried for 478 yards and two touchdowns this season, and often clears the way for Cam Jackson, who has rushed for 519 yards and four scores.
“Rivers Bedenbaugh was at Georgia Southern before he came here, so he had a little bit of that in his system,” said USC interim head coach Shawn Elliott.
