COLUMBIA — True freshman Lorenzo Nunez will have a role in South Carolina’s offense, but not as starting quarterback to begin the season.
That was the word after Monday’s practice from Gamecocks head coach Steve Spurrier, who’s begun the process of paring down his four quarterback candidates, one of whom will start the season opener Sept. 3 against North Carolina in Charlotte.
“There will be a spot for Lorenzo Nunez,” Spurrier said. “Obviously as a freshman, all the offense we’re doing, he’s not quite ready for all that. He can take off, and he can make some stuff happen.
