COLUMBIA — Gerald Dixon hasn’t practiced at all in preseason camp following surgery to fix a leg he fractured as a freshman. But the junior defensive end was running Thursday, and holds out hope of returning for South Carolina’s Sept. 3 opener against North Carolina in Charlotte.
“It’s pretty healed right now,” Dixon said, “so I’m just waiting to get cleared.”
Dixon was USC’s fifth-leading tackler last season, when he started 11 games and led all defensive linemen with 42 stops. The Rock Hill native had surgery in April to implant a rod in his right leg, which he fractured as a freshman.
