COLUMBIA — If Steve Spurrier was hoping to see some separation among his four quarterbacks in Saturday’s scrimmage at Williams-Brice Stadium, he had to look awfully hard to find it.
None of South Carolina’s quarterback hopefuls particularly shined on an evening when the USC defense showed hints of a pass rush which was missing most of last season. Elliott Fry’s 30-yard field goal was the lone offensive score of the full-field session, although Shon Carson turned a short pass from Perry Orth into a 25-yard touchdown while the Gamecocks were in their overtime set.
“It was a struggle out here,” said USC’s head coach.
