COLUMBIA — Officials at South Carolina and the SEC are monitoring the progress of Hurricane Matthew as the forecast track creeps closer to the coast ahead of Saturday’s game between the Gamecocks and Georgia at Williams-Brice Stadium.
As of 2 p.m. Tuesday, the storm was lashing the Caribbean with 145 mph winds. The National Hurricane Center forecast track projects Matthew to be on or near the South Carolina coast as of Saturday morning, with a possible landfall near the North Carolina line.
USC said in a statement that it is monitoring the weather forecast, and is “in communication with the National Weather Service, local authorities and the SEC regarding potential weather issues.
