On the Beat: Gamecocks open 2016 season with back-to-back SEC road games

COLUMBIA — South Carolina will open its 2016 football slate in Nashville, Tenn., and play three of its first four games away from Williams-Brice Stadium.

USC opens next season on Thursday, Sept. 1, at Vanderbilt, and then travels to Mississippi State on Sept. 10. The Gamecocks’ home opener is Sept. 17 against East Carolina, but USC hits the road again the following week to play at Kentucky.

It will be the first true road opener for USC since the 2012 season, also at Vanderbilt, and the first time the Gamecocks have opened with two consecutive road games since playing at North Carolina State and Georgia to begin the 2009 slate.
