COLUMBIA — After two rough defensive series to open last weekend’s game at Tennessee, South Carolina interim head coach Shawn Elliott began offering suggestions to USC’s defensive staff — and he doesn’t plan to stop there.
Elliott said on his weekly radio program Thursday night that he began “chirping in” midway through the opening quarter, urging co-defensive coordinator Jon Hoke to roll the dice. “I kept fueling him to take chances,” Elliott said.
Hoke was open to the suggestions, he added. “We had a great communication on the headset from that point forward,” Elliott said. “... It’s going to move forward, and continue to get better and better.
