COLUMBIA — It’s close enough now to feel the anticipation of another potential No. 1 versus No. 2 matchup, this one just over a week away. But for the South Carolina women’s basketball team, Connecticut can wait.
For a few days, at least, until after a pair of conference games against ranked opponents which could go a long way toward determining the SEC title. That journey begins at 6 p.m. Sunday at No. 10 Texas A&M, which on Jan. 17 nearly ended both the Gamecocks’ perfect record and three-year-long home winning streak.
USC won that game 59-58 after the Aggies scored to tie the game in the final seconds, but lost track of time and score and fouled Gamecocks guard Khadijah Sessions, who supplied the winning margin from the free throw line.
