Nationals draft South Carolina’s Wil Crowe

South Carolina pitcher Wil Crowe bounced back from Tommy John surgery to have a strong junior season and was rewarded by being selected in the second round of Monday’s MLB draft.

Crowe was selected by the Washington Nationals with the 65th overall pick and is the second Gamecock to be drafted Monday night, joining fellow weekend starter Clarke Schmidt who was taken 16th overall by the New York Yankees.

The Tennessee native finished his junior season 6-5 with a 3.41 ERA in 15 starts and had 90 strikeouts in 92 1/3 innings pitched.

He sat out the 2016 season after undergoing Tommy John surgery halfway through 2015.
