COLUMBIA — An MRI on the knee of South Carolina outfielder T.J. Hopkins showed no cartilage or ligament damage, and the Summerville native is day-to-day for the Gamecocks’ final week of regular-season games.
Hopkins injured his right knee leaping to catch a home run ball by Texas A&M’s Hunter Melton in the third inning of Sunday’s 10-7 victory over the Aggies. The freshman left the game after singling in his next at-bat.
The injury does not appear to be as serious as USC head coach Chad Holbrook initially feared. But Hopkins’ availbilty for the 10th-ranked Gamecocks remains uncertain this week, when USC plays The Citadel at 7 p.
