SIOUX FALLS, S.D. — This weekend might not be the only time the South Carolina women’s basketball team treks to South Dakota for NCAA Tournament regional games. Not if the Sioux Falls Sports Authority gets its way.
The regional here in this corner of the Mount Rushmore State is part of a concerted effort by city leaders to bring more NCAA events to Sioux Falls — and at the same time, change some of the preconceived notions of a region that outsiders tend to view as all grassland, or all snowbound, or all too close to Canada.
“We’re just trying to get people to understand that Sioux Falls is not all prairie,” said Bryan Miller, executive director of the Sioux Falls Sports Authority.
