JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — Four busloads of South Carolina fans and even former football coach Steve Spurrier showed up Sunday at Veterans Memorial Arena, to watch the third-ranked Gamecocks try and add another SEC title. Dawn Staley’s squad did not leave them disappointed.
A’ja Wilson recorded a double-double as USC clamped down on No. 16 Mississippi State, winning 66-52 before a crowd of 6,549 to claim their second consecutive SEC Tournament championship and almost certainly lock up the No. 2 national seed in the NCAA Tournament.
The top-seeded Gamecocks (31-1) completed an unbeaten SEC slate, going 16-0 in regular-season play and running the table in the tournament.
