COLUMBIA — Lorenzo Nunez to the rescue.
South Carolina’s true freshman starting quarterback provided exactly the offensive spark head coach Steve Spurrier hoped for Saturday, rushing for over 100 yards, passing for two touchdowns, and rallying the Gamecocks to a much-needed 31-14 victory over winless Central Florida at Williams-Brice Stadium.
Nunez helped USC score 26 unanswered points after the Knights stunned the home crowd by scoring two second-quarter touchdowns to take a 14-5 lead. The quarterback provided a key block on a 29-yard scoring rush by Pharoh Cooper, hit tight end Jacob August from 13 yards out for his first touchdown pass, and then delivered a perfect 35-yard strike to Cooper to break the game open.
