Jake Bentley: Why USC’s offense struggled after halftime vs NC State

South Carolina’s offense opened against N.C. State with some fire.

But in the second half Saturday, points were hard to come by.

USC’s offense managed scores on the first two possessions of the third quarter, each benefiting from good field position, but could not get past the 50-yard line the rest of the day. It took a cocktail of factors, many correctable, to set that up.

“In the passing game, I was really seeing things really clearly,” Bentley said of his first-half play. “In the second half, we were backed up a few times. Didn’t get a lot of first-down production, whether that be not getting a good gain on the run or incompletion on first down, kind of made it hard for us.
