COLUMBIA — Justin Smoak, the Stratford High School graduate and current big leaguer with the Toronto Blue Jays, is one of nine new members selected to the University of South Carolina Athletic Hall of Fame, the school announced Friday.
A Goose Creek native, Smoak was an All-American in the 2007 and 2008 seasons who set school records for home runs (62), runs batted in (207), bases on balls (151) and total bases (485). His junior year, he hit .383 with 23 homers and 72 RBI. He is fifth on the SEC career list for homers, and one of only seven players in SEC history to record 60 or more round-trippers.
