COLUMBIA — Steve Spurrier was so fired up, he arrived clutching not a page of ball plays, but highlighted quotes from Attila the Hun.
“It’s a simple truth, that the greater your accomplishment, your victories, the greater the opposition, torment and discouragement your enemies will throw in your path,” read South Carolina’s head football coach. “Expect it, and don’t become a victim of it.”
And so went a strange and hastily-arranged media conference Wednesday, in which the 70-year-old Spurrier asserted — in his most strident tones yet — that his age is not hampering his ability to do his job.
