Gamecocks vs. Georgia to remain in Columbia; Sunday, Monday could be options for game

COLUMBIA — South Carolina’s football game against Georgia will be played at Williams-Brice Stadium, but the exact day and time remained in question Wednesday as Hurricane Matthew spun offshore.

USC announced Wednesday night that the game would indeed be played in Columbia, ending hand-wringing over the potential recloation of a Gamecocks home contest for a second consecutive season. The school anticipates a decision Thursday on when the game will be played, with Sunday and Monday emerging as possibilities.

The Gamecocks and Georgia are scheduled to kick off at 7:30 p.m. Saturday. Matthew is forecast to be off the coast southeast of Charleston at 2 p.
