The South Carolina Gamecocks were named a regional host in the NCAA Baseball Tournament on Sunday night, as Founders Park will see postseason action for the first time since 2016.
Columbia was chosen despite the Gamecocks' late-season slump and typically disastrous SEC Tournament performance. However, South Carolina (33-21, 16-15 SEC) boasts the country's No. 2 strength of schedule, as well as nine wins against Top 25 RPI opponents (and 11 against the Top 50). It's likely, however, that USC will not be the top seed in its regional -- something fans aren't used to seeing -- but hey, the Gamecocks are back in the tournament again after last year's COVID wipeout and 2019's disappointing NCAA miss.
