Gamecocks pitcher Parke to miss 2016 season with elbow injury

COLUMBIA — South Carolina pitcher John Parke will miss the 2016 baseball season after being diagnosed with an injury to his left elbow which will require surgery.

The junior left-hander underwent an MRI which discovered an injury to the ulnar collateral ligament in his throwing arm. He is scheduled to have surgery Thursday.

Parke, from Greenville, pitched 9.1 innings last season, all in relief, striking out 10 while not allowing an earned run. USC pitcher Wil Crowe suffered a torn ulnar collateral ligament last season, and is expected to miss this season as well after undergoing Tommy John surgery.
