Gamecocks men drop to 24th in AP poll; Clemson receives first votes since 2009

COLUMBIA — South Carolina’s first loss of the season dropped the Gamecocks five spots in the newest AP Top 25 men’s basketball poll released Monday.

USC fell to No. 24 after a week in which the Gamecocks were beaten by 23 points at Alabama, and then returned home to outlast Missouri 81-72. South Carolina had been ranked 19th after opening the season 15-0, the program’s best start since the 1933-34 squad won 17 straight.

Clemson, coming off three consecutive victories over ranked opponents, received votes in the poll for the first time since February of 2009, the last season the Tigers were ranked.
