South Carolina landed one of the top football recruits in the state of Georgia on Wednesday when defensive end Jordan Smith of Lithonia committed to the Gamecocks.
Smith, a 6-6, 220-pound senior, chose the Gamecocks over offers from Clemson, Georgia, Florida, Tennessee and others.
“There’s just something that I like about South Carolina,” Smith said. “I like the new facilities and stuff that they have. I like Coach (Lorenzo) Ward and I like Coach Deke (Adams), and I love Coach Spurrier. It was a very difficult decision.”
At one point, Smith favored Clemson in the recruiting process, but things started to slide USC’s direction after he attended the Showcase camp in late June.
