South Carolina star wide receiver/kick returner Deebo Samuel earned the SEC’s Special Teams Player of the Week award on Monday after his clutch performance against Ole Miss.
Samuel returned the opening kickoff 90 yards for a touchdown to get the Gamecocks started off right, then had another key 38-yard return in the fourth quarter to set up a crucial scoring drive. In total, he returned five kicks for 178 yards, averaging 35.6 yards a pop.
This distinction is the first of the season for Samuel, who now owns a school record with four kicks returned for a touchdown.
