Former South Carolina quarterback Connor Shaw will be out for “an extended period of time” after suffering an injury to his thumb in the Cleveland Browns’ preseason opener Thursday.
Shaw will need surgery to repair the injury. He is likely to be placed on injured reserve and could miss the season, according to Mary Kay Cabot of Northeastern Ohio Media Group.
Shaw completed 5-of-10 passes for 64 yards in the exhibition against Washington.
“I feel for Connor because he has worked extremely hard,” Browns head coach Mike Pettine said in a team release. “He’s a competitor and has had a great offseason and a good camp so far.
