COLUMBIA — There was an oscillating basketball shooting machine on the court in the backyard, and the three kids would see who could miss the fewest out of 100 shots. There was a football passing net, and the two brothers would see who could hit the target the most often. If they were headed to the swimming pool, it was always a race to see who could get there first.
