South Carolina junior Deebo Samuel’s big play to start the Gamecocks’ opener against N.C. State earned him SEC Special Teams Player of the Week honors.
The wide receiver returned the opening kickoff 97 yards for one of three touchdowns he scored in the Gamecocks’ 35-27 win against N.C. State.
Samuel’s kickoff return touchdown tied the USC career record with two. He had a 100-yard return for a score last season against Western Carolina.
He shares the career record with running back King Dixon, who played at USC from 1956-58.
