Country music singer and lifelong South Carolina fan Darius Rucker covered Prince’s “Purple Rain” in gratitude of LSU at Tiger Stadium in Baton Rouge this past weekend.
While the artist has often covered the hit song in the past, this performance, played in part of the Bayou Country Superfest, was specifically dedicated to LSU, who hosted a South Carolina “home” game against the Gamecocks last season after the Columbia, S.C. area was ravaged by strong flood waters.
“Purple Rain” was played because LSU’s school colors are purple and gold.
“They treated us so well,” Rucker told the crowd, via NOLA.
