As has been the case for much of this season, South Carolina’s offense failed to come through against Virginia on Sunday, leading to a season-ending loss.
The Cavaliers took a 1-0 lead in the first inning on an RBI single by Devin Ortiz, then added another run in the next inning on an Alex Tappen solo shot to make the score 2-0. Their final run of the game came in the third on an RBI doubler from Nic Kent, making it a 3-0 game. The Gamecocks finally ended the shutout in the sixth, when Brady Allen walked with one out and later scored on an RBI groundout by Wes Clarke that made it 3-1.
