ATHENS, GA. — South Carolina sophomore right-hander Clarke Schmidt hurled his second career complete game and allowed just one run on five hits with 10 strikeouts as the No. 5 Gamecocks defeated Georgia, 3-1, on Friday night in the series opener at Foley Field.
Schmidt (8-1) reached double digits in strikeouts for the third time this season.
South Carolina got on the board in the top of the second inning. Alex Destino led off with a walk. After advancing to third on a wild pitch with two outs, Chris Cullen knocked a 3-2 pitch up the middle for an RBI.
