COLUMBIA — A promising NFL scouting combine for former South Carolina offensive lineman Brandon Shell was cut short by a quadriceps injury.
The Goose Creek native and former Gamecocks standout pulled up at the very end of his 40-yard run Friday, and limped off to the side. Reached via text message in Indianapolis, Shell said the problem was “just my quad,” and not a hamstring as some originally speculated.
Shell still posted a time of 5.22 seconds in the drill, 19th-fastest among the 45 offensive linemen who took part. Shell also recorded one of the longer broad jumps among the offensive linemen at 9 feet, 4 inches, and performed 22 repetitions of 225 pounds on the bench press, according to NFL.
