COLUMBIA — Alaina Coates will receive the South Carolina women’s basketball endowed scholarship named in honor of Goose Creek native Aleighsa Welch.
Other endowed scholarships announced Wednesday by USC include Goose Creek native Katelyn Dambaugh receiving the Kenneth T. Lytle scholarship, Gamecocks quarterback Perry Orth receiving the Tommy Suggs scholarship, and linebacker T.J. Holloman receiving the Marcus Lattimore scholarship.
Coates, a senior, is a three-time All-SEC selection who last season averaged 12 points and 10.1 rebounds per game. Her scholarship is named for Welch, a former USC All-American whso anchored the Gamecocks’ run to their first Final Four, and is now playing professionally in Portugal.
