The University of South Alabama is soliciting funds from a number of sources for its going project to build an on-campus stadium.
As part of the $73-million project, USA has requested $10 million from the City of Mobile and $5 million from Mobile County. The school is also asking for contributions from private donors and corporate sponsors.
One source South Alabama won't use, however, is the USA Foundation, which has assets of more than $369 million and has contributed more than $173 million to the school since 1990. School president Tony Waldrop and athletics director Joel Erdmann did meet with USA Foundation officials earlier this year, but have not requested funding and would be unlikely to get it if they did so.
