Steve Campbell grew up idolizing Paul "Bear" Bryant and got his professional start under Pat Dye, and on Friday said he'd landed his dream job in the state once dominated by those two coaches.
The 51-year-old Campbell -- a native of the Pensacola area -- was introduced Friday as head football coach at South Alabama, just the second in program history after founder Joey Jones. He comes from Mobile from Central Arkansas, where he went 33-15 in four seasons on the FCS level.
"This is the place where I've always wanted to be," Campbell said. "It's a very, very exciting time for me.
