South Alabama's Tyler Carr pitched 8 2/3 no-hit innings Friday in a 10-1 victory at Texas State, narrowly missing the first nine-inning no-no in program history.
Carr, a senior, surrendered an RBI double to Luke Sherley with two outs and two strikes in the ninth for the Bobcats' lone hit and run. Jaguars right fielder Michael Sandle dove for the ball, but could not come up with it.
Carr (7-2) struck out six and walked three, including Texas State's Jacob Almendarez to begin the ninth. He then retired the next two hitters before Sherley's double, then struck out Derek Schieble to end the game.
