South Alabama's Steve Campbell: 'We're in no hurry' to name starting quarterback

As South Alabama prepares for its first scrimmage of the fall Saturday night at Ladd-Peebles Stadium, head coach Steve Campbell said there is not timeline as to when the Jaguars will name a starting quarterback.

Redshirt freshman Cephus Johnson entered fall camp as a the frontrunner at the position, though fifth-year seniors Cole Garvin and Evan Orth continue to get equal reps in practice. Campbell continues to insist he's treating the quarterback competition like that at any other position.

"We don't have to name a starter today," Campbell said during USA's Media Day Friday. "We will get to that point soon enough.
