South Alabama catcher Jared Barnes could be selected by an MLB organization as soon as today.
Barnes is considered the Jaguars' top pro prospect this year, following a breakout junior season for the Tallahassee, Fla., native. Barnes was a first-team All-Sun Belt Conference pick in 2017, when he batted .320/.416/.605 with 13 home runs and 50 RBIs in 51 games before breaking a finger on his throwing hand late in the regular season.
Other names to watch for South Alabama in the later rounds of the MLB draft are senior pitcher Randy Bell, junior shortstop Drew LaBounty and signees JoJo Booker and Hunter Brittain.
